Chair Dance

Let yourself be seduced by chair dance! Lady Jo will get you acquainted with the more advanced sensual movements you can do on a chair. She will also offer training routines that will develop the muscles and flexibility needed for these movements. This is a class for those who already know the basics of burlesque and have at least 2 years of movement experience. Taught by a seasoned burlesque dancer obsessed with her chair, this class will help you get familiar with chair dance tricks, movements, and transitions. After exploring the 10 different “zones” around the chair, you’ll be given the tools you need to be your own choreographer and use these movements for dance and striptease.

What to wear/bring: Please wear stretchy clothes for movement, and bring a water bottle. A summary of notes on the moves we learn will be sent after the workshop but a notebook is still welcome if that serves you. Bring any shoes that you’d like to practice movement in.

About The Lady Josephine:

Known as a “Tall Glass of Bad Ass”, The Lady Josephine is an award-winning burlesque performer, teacher and entrepreneur. She was chosen to compete for Miss Exotic World at the Burlesque Hall of Fame and played the role of Lili St Cyr in the 7 Finger’s production “Vice & Vertu” in 2017. Josephine grew up a trained dancer and studied in mime and theatre before diving into burlesque. She toured North America to learn from her burlesque idols and taught her first workshops alongside her mentor, BonBon Bombay, in 2012. She is founder and director of the Academie Arabesque Burlesque in Montreal, Canada. Her school offers weekly burlesque classes ranging from dance-training and workout, to costume play, to a guided journey for building your first act. Josephine has a passion for pedagogy and loves to breakdown the art of the tease in a way that is systematic and easy to understand. Her students are her greatest inspiration.
